How We Helped a Nonprofit Stop Being Mistaken for a Forklift Dealer
Community Forklift had a problem that would make any charity marketing director cringe. After 20 years operating as Maryland's nonprofit reuse warehouse, people still thought they sold forklifts.
Why Do Nonprofits Need Animation Videos?
Scott Buga, their Director of Marketing and Communications, put it perfectly: "We are constantly getting confused for a forklift distributor." For a small nonprofit team where time is precious, this confusion was actively hurting their mission.
Community Forklift rescues building materials, sells them in their warehouse store, and provides free supplies to neighbours in need. Picture explaining a circular economy to someone who thinks you sell warehouse equipment. That's a communication challenge worth solving…
How Does Charity Animation Create Authentic Storytelling?
We focused on character animation to show real people doing real work for real people like in the illustration above.
What Makes Effective Nonprofit Animation?
Bringing Dead Stuff Back to Life
We converted their mandala-style logo pattern into animated elements that flow throughout the video. We animated them gaining colour and vibrancy as they moved through the rescue-to-reuse process. It's a visual metaphor that captures their entire mission: breathing new life into discarded materials.
Logo Animation Challenge - When Math Meets Mission
We painstakingly animated their actual logo sequence - a continuous loop where a hammer 🔨 morphs into a spanner 🔧, then a saw 🪚, then back to a hammer. Each tool transformation required solving an Escher-style mathematical puzzle 😰 to create seamless shape transitions that captured their reuse philosophy.
Remote Animation Studio, Local Impact
We captured specifics that mattered to Scott, including their actual "Line Forms Here" sign in the warehouse scene. These details build client confidence and show we understand their world. Despite being a remote animation studio based in rural Spain, we successfully captured the visuals of this US charity from the other side of the Atlantic. We developed a bespoke illustration style (no stock images) in sync with their brand guidelines.
Finding the Perfect Nonprofit Voice
After auditioning 15 artists, Community Forklift selected John Raynar for his approachable tone that sounded like "a neighbour who speaks well" rather than a news anchor. John, based in American Samoa, brought exactly the warmth and authenticity the project needed.
What Results Can Nonprofit Animation Deliver?
Client Testimonial
"Leo and the Leon! Animation Studio team created an excellent charity explainer video for Community Forklift. As a small nonprofit, time is precious, so we really appreciated their ability to deliver high-quality nonprofit animation with minimal revisions. Leo's communication was superb, and he understood exactly what we needed. The final animated explainer perfectly captured our organisation's vibe. I'd recommend Leon! to other charities looking for professional animation services."

Why Leon! for Charity Animation
After 20 years of explaining "we're not a forklift dealer," Community Forklift finally got clarity. No viral TikTok dances or flashy effects needed - just one video that actually made sense.
Look, we're not going to pretend we're animation geniuses who reinvented the wheel here.
At Leon! Animation Studio, we've spent years figuring out what make charity animation work without making viewers want to throw their laptops out the window. Whether you're explaining policy changes that cure insomnia, or fundraising campaigns that need emotional punch without the manipulation, we’re the charity animation studio for you.
Working with nonprofits means understanding that your budget is tighter than a jar of pickles, and you've got approval committees with more opinions than a family WhatsApp group.
We've learned to navigate this chaos - creating professional animation studio services without the corporate nonsense or endless revision cycles that make everyone question their life choices.
Ready to stop being the charity equivalent of that person at parties who has to explain what they do for a living three times?
